Philip Haydon - Senior Editor

Dr Philip Haydon is the Annetta and Gustav Grisard Professor and Chair of the Department of Neuroscience at Tufts University. He is a distinguished scholar and leading expert in mechanisms by which astrocytes regulate synaptic transmission, neuronal circuits and their role in controlling behaviour. His recent work focuses on the roles of these astrocytes in disorders of the nervous system including epilepsy. His laboratory uses a variety of experimental strategies to study astrocyte-synapse interactions including molecular genetic manipulations of the astrocyte, in vivo and slice electrophysiology,two-photon microscopy, and behavioural studies. His laboratory has now been applying two-photon microscopy to the study of the development of amyloid plaques in mouse models of Alzheimer’s disease.
