Q. Please summarize how the peer-review process works for ASN NEURO?
Papers are assigned to a Senior Editor (authors can suggest a suitable Senior Editor during the submission process). The Senior Editor suggests a list of suitable reviewers. Papers are reviewed by two independent reviewers (blinded to one another); these may be members of the Editorial Board (currently approx. 50 members), or be taken from outside of the Editorial Board if necessary. The independent reviewer reports are reviewed by the Senior Editor, and the Senior Editor, based on the reviewer reports and their own assessment of the paper, provide a recommendation (accept, return for minor revision, decline with interest in new version, decline outright) to the Editor-in-Chief. The Editor-in-Chief writes the decision letter to the authors including the two independent reviewer reports (and if necessary comments from the Senior Editor).
Q. What are the handling times for the journal?
For regular research papers the average time to first decision is approx. 4 weeks.
Q. What is the composition of the Editorial Board?
The Editorial Board comprises renowned scientific experts from across the neurosciences. The Editor-in-Chief is Professor Anthony Campagnoni (UCLA), the Deputy Editor-in-Chief is Dr Christopher Colwell (UCLA) and the Reviews Editor is Dr Scott Brady (Chicago). There are nine Senior Editors, and an international Editorial Board of approximately 50 members.
Q. What types of articles does the journal publish?
The journal publishes reviews (commissioned and non-commissioned), research articles and commissioned commentaries.
Q. What is the rejection rate for the journal?

Once your Licence to Publish has been received and payment of the Open Access publication fee has been made, the final Version of Record of your article will be made freely available upon publication.
Q. Could you explain a bit more about the reviews?
Reviews in ASN NEURO are usually commissioned from highly reputed scientists in their respective fields by the Reviews Editor, who at the present time is Dr Scott Brady (Chicago). Proposals for non-commissioned review articles will be considered, and proposals should be sent to production@asnneuro.org, where the proposal will be considered by the Editor-in-Chief and the Reviews Editor. ASN NEURO reviews can also be enhanced by value-added features: (i) animations for appropriate figures, (ii) 3D-interactive figures (for papers with a structural component) and (iii) videos embedded within the paper (rather than as supplementary material).
Q. What are commentaries?
Commentaries, written by respected leaders in the field, highlight Editor-selected papers which are predicted to have an especially significant and far-reaching impact at the time of publication. The commentary aims to highlight the importance of the paper in the field and to put the paper in the context of other papers in the research field.
